DARIA
Daria our king of sorrows.
I came across this show while scrolling on TikTok, and I’m so happy I was doom-scrolling that day.
This TV show is about a teenage girl who, I’m not gonna lie, is kind of boring. At the beginning, Daria is very plain, sometimes even mean. She doesn’t think her actions can hurt other people or even herself. She hides inside that box and doesn’t leave until she realizes that other people have feelings too, and that she was hurting them by not caring.
I was like that once, and that’s why I like her so much. Because at the end of the day, she learns to care about others too. Like most people, Daria hurts others by thinking they are not important, so anyone who gets close ends up being hurt by her coldness.
Daria learns how to be a daughter, a friend, a sister, and a student but even better, she learns how to be herself, how to change without losing her essence. And that’s so beautiful. I haven’t finished the show yet I’m on season four but when I do, I’ll come back to give a better review.
Done. I finished the show.
Although I know Daria is an old show from the ’90s, I think it was pretty mid… I’ve noticed that Daria didn’t change much even her sister Quinn had better development than her. Even though Daria is shown as a girl who does what she likes and is different, she lives her life worrying about how people view her, and she sees everything through that lens.
And even when she realizes she’s too hard on people, she doesn’t change much. Stealing your best friend’s boyfriend and then breaking up with him just because he’s rich and you’re not when he never tried to make you feel excluded is terrible.
I also take back what I said about Daria learning how to be a daughter, a friend, etc. She’s really self-centered, and the worst part is that she doesn’t even notice it. I wish the show had given her better development not by making her a people pleaser, but by improving her self-esteem and not treating others badly just because they’re different from her.
Well, all I can say is that I was really disappointed with how it ended. But the visuals of the show are amazing really, really beautiful and I loved the episodes that were one hour long.
Now let’s talk about the Fashion Club divas. I hate and love them at the same time. Throughout the show, we see Quinn being a follower of the “word of the Fashion Club,” aka Sandi. And I really like how Quinn was able to slowly break away from that, and how loyal she is to her friends both new and old ones.
Her learning how to accept the way Daria acts is also really beautiful. She sees the way her mom and aunts are, and she doesn’t want that for herself or for Daria. That change is really beautiful.
Overall i loved the show and if you guys have any recomedations of shows like Daria, feel free to tell me about it.
